INTRODUCTION TO ASATRU: THE HAUGALAND HOF WAY

Asatru is a living religion -- the pre-Christian faith of the Norse and Germanic peoples, revived as a genuine practice. This course is your starting point. Not a survey of Norse mythology. Not a casual introduction to Viking aesthetics. A serious, accurate introduction to reconstructionist Asatru as practiced at Haugaland Hof -- grounded in the Eddas, the sagas, and the archaeological record, and developed by a Goði with over thirty years in the tradition.

Where Serious Practice Begins

Across 25 lessons and 5 modules you will encounter the tradition as it actually is -- its cosmology, its gods, its understanding of fate and ethics, its ritual forms, and what beginning a genuine personal practice actually looks like. The content is accessible to a complete beginner and substantive enough that experienced practitioners will find depth worth engaging with.

This course does not simplify the tradition to make it more palatable. It makes genuine depth accessible. There is a difference.
What this course covers:

  • What Asatru is, where it comes from, and what distinguishes reconstructionist practice from eclectic or folkish approaches
  • The gods of the Norse pantheon as real beings -- the Æsir, the Vanir, the landvættir, the dísir, and the ancestors
  • The Norse cosmological framework -- the nine worlds, Yggdrasil, wyrd and orlog, the gift economy
  • The ritual life of the tradition -- blót, sumbel, the eight seasonal observances, ritual garb, the sacred feast
  • How to establish a home altar and begin a genuine daily and seasonal practice
  • Where to go from here -- the seeker path, further courses, and the Haugaland Hof community
